Hiking Helped This Overweight Dog Get Healthy
Berkeley's elderly owner passed away, and she was returned to the shelter. This four-year-old dog was sad and overweight. She was adopted, and her new owner started hiking with her. On the first hike, she tired very quickly and didn't seem to really enjoy the outdoors. Her first few weeks were tough, and she struggled to eat or get comfortable at her new home.

On the third hiking trip, Berkeley really seemed to come to life. She began to explore and sniff everything. Playing in mud puddles and getting more curious to explore, her new owner could tell she had fallen in love with hiking.

She was camping and taking longer hikes by the second year at the new home. She was healthier than ever and discovered a love for water and swimming. Berkeley is healthy and lean now and has the best personality.

Recipe: Do(g)-It-Yourself Whole Meatloaf
Home-cooked meatloaf is a popular comfort food when the weather turns cold. Instead of sneaking your dog a few bites of human food, save them the tummy ache and make them their own dog-friendly meatloaf. This has healthy ingredients for your pup, and they will love to eat it.

Mouthwatering Meatloaf for Dogs
You'll need: two pounds of ground turkey, one cup of cooked organic oatmeal, ¾ cup of organic flaxseed meal or breadcrumbs, ½ cup of fresh organic parsley, two large organic eggs, and two cups of fresh or frozen organic vegetables (no onions)
  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Mix all the ingredients in a bowl.
  3. Transfer to a 9 x 13-inch baking dish and create a loaf in the center.
  4. Bake for one hour on the center rack.

8 Common Signs of Anxiety in Dogs
Many dogs suffer from anxiety in some form. They might have separation, environmental, social, or other general anxiety. It's important to know the signs your dog gives out when they are uncomfortable so you can remove or comfort them.

Eight signs that your dog may be anxious:

  • Pacing. Dogs pace like humans when they are worried.
  • Barking. There are many reasons for barking, but it's usually to get your attention.
  • Whining. This is one of the most dependable signs that their emotions are heightened.
  • Shaking. Dogs may shake when they are cold or scared.
  • Defecating. Even house-trained dogs may go to the bathroom when feeling anxious.
