🐕 dog reunited with family after 12 years

"My cats inspire me daily. They inspire me to get a dog."

Happy Thursday! Here's the scoop:
Did You Know...?
Joke: What do you call a dog who likes baths?

(scroll to the bottom to find the answer!)
A Magical Reunion
When Maricopa County Animal Care & Control picked up a little senior Bichon Frise dog, they noticed that the pup never wagged his tail. He was a little shy and was older, so he didn't move too fast. They located the microchip and made a quick call to the phone number.

It turns out that the pup is named Minion. He had escaped his backyard 12 years ago, and the family had not found him. The family had put up posters and checked every shelter but had no luck.

Field officer Allyssa Sanford drove the dog back to his family and made sure to give them the heads up that he was a senior dog now. The moment she opened the kennel and the dog saw his family, his wail started wagging again, and he was so excited about the reunion. The family is beyond thrilled to have him back. This is a great reminder to get your dog microchipped.

Recipe: Do(g)-It-Yourself Holiday Chew Sticks
This simple jerky recipe gives your pup a special little snack for the holidays. It's just a bonus that the whole house will smell amazing while these dehydrate in the oven. They can also make a great holiday gift for other dogs in your life.

Apple Pumpkin Pie Chew Sticks
You'll need: One cup of pure organic applesauce, one cup of pure organic pumpkin puree (not pumpkin pie puree), and ½ tbsp of organic cinnamon
  1. Preheat the oven to 175 degrees.
  2. Add all the ingredients to a medium-sized mixing bowl and stir to combine.
  3. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Smear out long lines of the batter (the thicker you make them, the longer they take to dehydrate.)
  4. Place in the oven and dehydrate/bake for 6-7 hours. Check on them every hour. They should be firm but not sticky.
  5. Cut your strips to the desired sizes and twist them to mold them into spirals.

How To Help Your Pup (And Yourself) Recover
After a long hike or a day filled with playful activities, our furry companions often find themselves happily worn out. Just like humans, dogs experience physical and mental fatigue, and it's crucial for pet owners to be attuned to the signs indicating their need for rest and recovery.

Dogs may exhibit subtle cues such as slowing down, excessive panting, seeking shade, or even lying down with a reluctance to continue activities. Recognizing these signals is essential in ensuring the well-being of our canine friends.

Providing a comfortable and quiet space for them to rest allows their bodies to recuperate, muscles to recover, and energy levels to be replenished. Monitoring their hydration and offering fresh water is equally important. By paying attention to their cues and prioritizing rest, responsible pet owners contribute to their dogs' overall health and happiness, fostering a strong and enduring bond between human and canine companions.

Just as dogs can sometimes overdo it, so can we, especially around the holidays.

No need to feel horrible, especially after a night of drinking. That's because of ZBiotics Pre-Alcohol Probiotic Drink: a tiny bottle that packs a huge performance punch.

Here's how it works: when you drink, alcohol produces acetaldehyde, which is not your friend in the morning. But, when you have a ZBiotics Pre-Alcohol Probiotic before your first adult beverage, it breaks down the acetaldehyde while you drink. And that means you can have fun without paying for it later. Tips and Tricks to Calm Down a Hyper Dog
If you have a dog with a high energy level, you might be looking for ways to wear them out. All dogs experience bursts of energy, but some dogs never seem to stop moving. This might mean that your pup needs more exercise and playtime, or there may be larger issues under the surface. The three most common explanations for hyper dogs are boredom, excitement, and anxiety.

Start with these ideas and help your pup balance energy and relaxation. Combine each tip because it's usually not just one of these things that will help settle your dog down.
  • Place training. Trainers use a mat or place to help dogs settle down and focus. It's all about giving your dog a place to sit and focus - usually a mat or a cot. Start with shorter time targets and help your dog work their way up.
  • Exercise. Each breed has different physical activity requirements. Some adult herding dogs need up to 90 minutes of exercise each day. Mix it up with the dog park, long walks, games of fetch, and some backup indoor activities.
  • Mental stimulation. Many dogs love having a task to complete. Utilize puzzle toys, sniff mats, trick training, and interactive toys to give your dogs something to focus on and use their minds.
  • Routine. Creating a routine for your dog can help them remain calm. Structure is great for dogs, so have a routine that you can stick to with meal times, exercise, and relaxation time.
  • Diet. Food won't greatly impact your dog's activity level, but they must get a well-balanced diet. Their calorie needs will be based on their size, lifestyle, and activity level. Talk to your vet to ensure your dog is getting the right food.
  • Medication. Some medications can help if your dog is stressed and other strategies to calm them down aren't working.
