Pitbull Saves a Boy from Snake
Hurley is a Pitbull who loves a little extra exercise, so his owner takes him for late evening walks and allows him some sniffing time off-leash. One night, they were on their nightly walk, and they heard a child screaming. Hurley took off. When his owner caught up, he found him pulling a copperhead snake off of a young boy. The boy ran back to his mother.

Animal Control was called, and they discovered Harley was bitten while helping the boy. They found two puncture wounds in his upper lip. Hurley got fantastic care from the vet and was feeling better after an overnight stay, and some extra TLC. Hurley likely saved that boy from harm. What a brave guy!

Recipe: Do(g)-It-Yourself Pumpkin Pie for Dogs
The holiday season brings lots of desserts and treats for humans, so why leave out the dogs from the fun? The amount of sugar in a standard pumpkin pie isn't great for dogs, so now you can make them their own.

Pup-Friendly Pumpkin Pie
You'll need: 1 ¾  cups of oat flour, ½ teaspoon of salt, three large eggs, ¼ cup of olive oil, 1 15 oz can of pumpkin puree, ¼ cup of milk, 3 tbsp of maple syrup (optional)
  1. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk 1 ½ cups of flour and salt and set aside.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk one egg and olive oil and pour into the large bowl. Mix with a large spoon. Press the dough into the bottom of a pie plate and up the sides.
  4. Make the filling by mixing pumpkin puree, two eggs, milk of choice, and maple syrup. Add in the remaining flour and salt and mix until smooth.
  5. Pour the filling into the pie crust and bake for 42-45 minutes.
  6. Let the pie cool before serving. Add a little whipped cream if you want to really sweeten the treat.

Are Avocados Safe For Dogs?
No part of an avocado is completely safe for dogs. Some pups can eat a small amount of the green flesh without any major risks, but it's recommended just to avoid it. All parts of the fruit contain persin, a fungicidal toxin that can poison your pet. Dogs are a bit more resistant than other animals, but it's still risky. The leaves and skin of avocados are the most dangerous.

There is also a high fat content in avocados. That can put dogs at risk for pancreatitis. Breeds like Miniature Schnauzers, Yorkshire Terriers, and Cocker Spaniels are more at risk than others, but high-fat foods should be eaten in moderation.

Avocado oil may be safe and even have some great benefits for dogs. There's no persin in the oil, and it contains healthy compounds like monosaturated fatty acids, vitamins, and antioxidants. Mixing in a small amount of oil into your dog's food would be a great way to start with this.

If your dog gets their mouth on some avocado, you'll want to pay close attention to them and watch for any negative reactions. Watch for vomiting, diarrhea, and other stomach irritation. Call your vet if you're concerned.
