Postal Worker Saves a Dog's Life
It's an age-old rivalry, but maybe those days are behind us. A USPS worker in Georgia saved a dog after a venomous snake bit the pup in September. The dog's owner, Kelsey, was at work when the copperhead snake struck. Kelsey's post on social media went viral when she set out to find the postal worker who saved her dog.

The mail carrier, who was identified as Holle Prigmore, wrote a note on her phone and showed it to the camera next to the door. Prigmore noticed Ginger, the dog, get startled by something in the grass. She saw the snake bit Ginger. Thankfully, she could identify the snake and knew the dog would need medical attention. She brought the pup to the animal hospital, and they were able to treat her right away and verify the type of snake with the photo Prigmore took.

Thanks to Prigmore's quick thinking and being in the right place at the right time, Ginger will be OK. The owner, the dog, and Prigmore met in person a few days after the incident. Ginger immediately jumped on to Prigmore and showed so much love and gratitude to the woman who saved her life.

Eight Winter Tips to Keep Your Dog Warm and Healthy
The winter season can be challenging because of the cold temperatures and inclement weather. However, this doesn't mean you need to hide inside; you and your dog can still get out and play. Just follow these tips to keep your pup warm this winter:
  1. Avoid long walks. Incorporate some indoor games in addition to shorter walks in the winter. There are plenty of ways to get physical activity without being outside.
  2. Give your pup a warm spot. Vets recommend having blankets and warm clothes for your dogs on cold nights to help keep them warm.
  3. Buy a doggie jacket. Especially for breeds with short coats, having a coat can help them stay warm. The jacket should fit snugly. Plus, you can likely find some pretty adorable ones at your local pet shop!
  4. Protect the paws. Cold weather can create some issues for paws. Keep them moisturized with coconut oil.
  5. Keep a heater on hand. If you don't have a strong heat source in your home, consider adding a heating pad for your pup or a safe small heater.
  6. Ensure the dogs are well-fed. Dogs with full bellies will have an easier time staying warm. You can feed them snacks between meals or even heat up their food a bit.
  7. Keep their coats dry and clean. Wipe them down and dry them off after their daily walks.
  8. Move their bed away from drafty spots. Make sure they can sleep further away from open doors and windows.

How Dogs Benefit Our Mental Health
In the hustle and bustle of our daily lives, the companionship of a four-legged friend can be a balm for the soul. Beyond their wagging tails and adorable antics, dogs offer a unique form of therapy that contributes significantly to our mental well-being.

1. Unconditional Love and Companionship: Dogs are experts at providing unconditional love and companionship. Their non-judgmental presence creates a comforting and supportive environment, helping alleviate feelings of loneliness and fostering emotional connection.

2. Stress Reduction and Anxiety Relief: The simple act of petting a dog can trigger the release of oxytocin, the "feel-good" hormone, leading to a reduction in stress and anxiety levels. The rhythmic motion of stroking a dog provides a soothing and calming effect, promoting a sense of tranquility.

3. Physical Activity and Routine: Owning a dog encourages physical activity, whether it's a leisurely stroll or an energetic game of fetch. Regular exercise not only improves physical health but also enhances mood by releasing endorphins, the body's natural mood lifters. The routine of caring for a dog adds structure to our lives, contributing to a sense of purpose and stability.

4. Social Connection: Walking a dog or visiting a dog park often leads to social interactions with other pet owners. This sense of community fosters social connections, reducing feelings of isolation and providing opportunities for meaningful human interactions.

5. Emotional Support: Dogs have an innate ability to sense human emotions. They offer a comforting presence during challenging times, providing emotional support without the need for words. This bond can be particularly beneficial for those dealing with depression, grief, or other mental health challenges.

In conclusion, the therapeutic benefits of dogs extend far beyond their role as loyal companions. They touch our lives in profound ways, offering emotional support, companionship, and a unique form of therapy that contributes positively to our mental health.

So, the next time you find solace in the company of a furry friend, know that their wagging tail is not just a sign of joy but a powerful dose of canine comfort for your mental well-being.
