πŸ• that's a lot of little sausage dogs

"No animal I know of can consistently be more of a friend and companion than a dog."
- Stanley Leinwall

Happy Friday! Here's the scoop:
Did You Know...?
Which breed is celebrated so much in South Korea that they included it in the opening ceremonies of the 1988 Olympic Games?

(scroll to the bottom to find the answer!)
So Many Tiny Sausage Dogs
Winne is a three-year-old Dachshund from Leicester, England. She gained a new title recently after giving birth to a record-breaking litter. Now, Winnie is the mother of 11 puppies after giving birth at home! It's shocking because Dachshunds usually only have one to six puppies due to their small size.

Rayma Jones is Winne's owner, and she was amazed at the size of the litter. She just kept counting the puppies repeatedly because she couldn't believe the number. Jones says that Winne is the best mom ever. She's a natural and can nearly feed all 11 puppies simultaneously. The puppies will go to new homes once they reach the proper age, but in the meantime, we are sure that Winne is soaking in the magic.

What to Do If You Inherit a Dog
Taking in a pet from a friend or family member is incredibly kind, but it requires adjustment for all involved, and there are some ways to help make the transition a bit easier for everyone. If you find yourself in this position, try these tips to help ensure the pet gets settled with you.
  • Learn the dog's routine. Find out everything you can about the dog's current lifestyle and care. Take notes on the schedule for feeding times, potty breaks, and exercise. Note any favorite toys or activities, and important information like veterinarian and grooming information.
  • Prepare your home. Dog-proof your home and stock up on all the essentials. Clean up any hazardous or dangerous objects and ensure they have safe spaces to play and explore.
  • Schedule a vet visit. Get the dog in for a full wellness check with a vet and transfer all medical records if you use a new vet. They can advise you on diet, exercise needs, and anything else you need to know to keep them in their best shape.
  • Learn the dog's personality. Each dog has their own personality quirks and traits. It's good to know how social they are, which commands they are trained on, and their preferences.
  • Bond with the dog. Keep your interactions relaxed, consistent, and positive. Reward positive behaviors and practice commands with them. Take them on slow walks around the neighborhood to sniff and explore.
  • Gradually introduce to other new people and animals. It's important to allow them time to acclimate before meeting other pets and friends. Introduce scents first so that the dogs can get used to them.
  • Adjust to your routine. Over time, you can transition the dog to your household's routine. It will be easier once they are comfortable. Take it slow and be patient with them.
