Elderly Dog Finds a Home After a Decade in a Shelter
Bean is an 11-year-old black Labrador mix who spent almost ten years at an animal shelter in Florida. But she finally found her happily ever after when Larry Denmark decided to give her a forever home. Larry saw her photos a while ago and started visiting the shelter to spend time with her. They then became fast friends, and he decided to give her a home

Bean is an incredibly smart dog and has so much love and affection to give. She just takes some time to warm up to people. The shelter noted that with her photos, and the fact that she needs a house without children. The shelter staff is so excited for her and has been sharing photos of her first few weeks in her new house, where she's settling in beautifully.

Is Your Pup An Early Bird Or A Night Owl?
Our canine companions, each a unique personality, often reveal distinctive behaviors, including their sleep patterns. Exploring whether your pup is an early riser or prefers the tranquility of the night can provide insights into their natural tendencies.

Dogs sleep an average of 12 to 14 hours a day, with two primary stages: rapid eye movement (REM) and non-rapid eye movement (NREM). Puppies and older dogs may spend more time in REM sleep, while NREM is a deeper, restorative phase.

Some dogs, akin to early risers, exude energy at the crack of dawn. Breeds like Labrador Retrievers and Border Collies embrace morning activities and thrive on routine. To cater to early birds, incorporate morning walks and play sessions, maintain a consistent feeding schedule, and creating a cozy sleep environment.

Conversely, certain pups come alive in the evening. Breeds like Greyhounds and Basset Hounds exhibit liveliness at night, benefiting from calming bedtime routines and quiet sleep spaces.

Individual observation is key. While breed characteristics offer general guidance, recognizing your dog's unique preferences ensures a harmonious routine. Embrace your pup's sleep style, enhancing the bond between you and your furry friend. Whether they're ready to seize the day at dawn or shine under the moonlight, celebrate the joy they bring to your life. Is your pup an early bird or a night owl? Let us know!

Winter Care for Dog Paws
The cold weather is upon us. Ice, snow, and the chemicals used to clear the sidewalks can put your dog's paws at risk of damage or discomfort. A few essential paw care tips can help you avoid any injuries and keep your pups healthy this season.

Winter Paw Care Tips
  • Regularly check your dog's paws for any cuts, cracks, or other injuries. Clean and treat them promptly.
  • Keep your dog's nails trimmed to prevent them from cracking or splitting.
  • Use a pet-safe paw balm or wax to protect their paws from the cold and keep them moisturized.
  • Try to avoid walking on salted or chemically treated roads whenever possible.
  • Minimize outdoor activities when the temps are extremely cold.
If you find a crack in the dog's paws, prevent infection and promote healing by cleaning with a mild soap. Apply a pet-safe paw balm to protect it and avoid any rough or sharp surfaces until healed. Contact your veterinarian if your dog is in pain or if the cracks are severe.
