Check Out the Custom Walker Made for this Maltipoo
Cody is a three-year-old Maltipoo with some severe mobility issues. His vet suspects he has a degenerative disease called cerebellar abiotrophy, which impacts the part of the brain that controls muscular activity. He had difficulty standing, walking, and going to the bathroom. Thankfully, his mom, Cecilia Liu, found a doggy daycare and boarding place that was willing and prepared to take care of him when she needed an extra hand.

Marc & Jayne's Bed & Biscuit is run by Marc & Jayne Wong through Rover. Marc's previous career had been as a Naval Architect and Marine Engineer for 18 years. He is able to troubleshoot all kinds of mechanical and engineering design problems. He had the brilliant idea to build Cody a wheelchair of sorts. He used things in the garage to build a contraption that would hold Cody up while he went to the bathroom and help him get around without much assistance.

Cecilia is so grateful and has already booked Cody's next stay at the Bed & Biscuit. Great work, Marc and Jayne!

Tips to Successfully Train Your Puppy
Puppies have short attention spans and wear out easily, so training them requires patience and persistence. It's a huge responsibility to bring home a new puppy, so it's good to be prepared for what challenges lie ahead, as well as to know the best tips to train your puppy successfully.

A few puppy training experts put together this full guide with everything you need to know:
  • Bond with your pup. Give your new animal around a week to bond with you and acclimate. Spend a lot of time petting and holding your puppy. Most puppies are used to being around their littermates, so having contact with you will help them bond quickly.
  • Start socializing. Up to 16 weeks, the puppy is developing their personality, so it's important to socialize them early on. Expose them to new people, dogs, and places. Get them out to see the world.
  • Potty train early. Create a daily schedule and stick to it. You should start early and increase the time between potty breaks as the dog ages, and its bladder grows. They should be house-trained by the time they are six months old.
  • Make training fun. Use positive reinforcement and celebrate the little wins with your pup. Dogs respond to all their senses, so give them treats, pet them, and cheer them on.
  • Take advantage of training classes. Puppies can start formal training as early as 12-15 weeks. At home, make sure you're focusing on simple things at first. If your puppy is biting, respond like a littermate would if they bite too hard—yelp and walk away.
  • Include playtime in between training. Give your dog time to have fun so they don't always have to strain their brains.
  • Find vet care. Ask your friends and neighbors if they have a vet that they recommend. It's good to have someone lined up before you bring the pup home so you know who to call with questions.
  • Handle your pup. Help your dog get comfortable with you by stroking their ears, touching their paws, and brushing their teeth. You want them to be used to being handled without any areas triggering them.
