πŸ• What if dogs had a customer service line?

"To sit with a dog on a hillside on a glorious afternoon is to be back in Eden, where doing nothing was not boring - it was peace."
- Milan Kundera

Mayday for Mutts 2024
Mayday is celebrated on the first Sunday of May, so this year, it's happening on May 5. It's a day designed to celebrate mixed breeds and encourage adoptions from shelters. The holiday was created by an author, Karen Derrico, who wrote Unforgettable Mutts: Pure of Heart, Not of Breed. She wanted to bring awareness to the satisfaction of adopting mutts.

To celebrate this important pup holiday, here are three interesting facts about mutts:
  1. They rarely have genetic disorders. Because they have a larger gene pool and many possible lineages, they tend to be generally healthier than purebred dogs.
  2. They tend to live longer. Although lifespan depends on a few factors, mutts generally tend to have a longer lifespan than purebreds.
  3. They are much cheaper than purebreds. You will spend less adopting a mixed breed than searching out a purebred puppy of a specific breed.
Whether you have a mutt at home or not, you can still celebrate this fun holiday. Donate to your local animal shelter, share a mutt you love on social media, or bring one home to your family. Mutts deserve our love.
American Airlines Changes Their Pet Policy
Great news for the summer travel season. American Airlines is relaxing its policy to let pet owners bring their animal companion and a full-size carry-on into the cabin. Until now, any passengers who carried their pet into the cabin with them would only be able to bring one other small item that fits under the seat.

The pet costs an additional $150, and you would have paid for any checked bags. Now, you still have to pay the pet fee, but you can carry a bag instead of being forced to check it. This should allow pet owners to have an easier time traveling.

If you are traveling with American Airlines shortly, make sure to call them if you have any questions about the new pet policy.
5 Tips For Saving Money On Care For Your Pup
  1. Buy Supplies in Bulk: Purchasing items like food, treats, and even toys in bulk can often save you a significant amount of money in the long run. Look for deals at wholesale stores or online retailers that offer discounts for buying in larger quantities.

  2. DIY Grooming: Instead of taking your pup to a professional groomer regularly, consider learning basic grooming techniques yourself. Invest in quality grooming tools and watch tutorials online to trim your pup's nails, brush their coat, and bathe them at home. This can save you a considerable amount over time.

  3. Regular Exercise: Providing your pup with regular exercise not only keeps them healthy and happy but can also save you money on veterinary bills in the future. A well-exercised dog is less likely to develop behavioral issues or health problems related to obesity.

  4. Preventative Healthcare: Keep up with your pup's preventative healthcare, such as vaccinations, flea and tick prevention, and regular check-ups. While these expenses may seem like an upfront cost, they can ultimately save you money by preventing more costly health issues down the road.

  5. Make Your Own Treats: Homemade treats can be a healthier and more cost-effective alternative to store-bought options. Look for simple recipes online using ingredients you likely already have at home, such as peanut butter, pumpkin, or sweet potato. Not only will your pup love them, but you'll also save money compared to buying commercial treats.

Imagine Being a Customer Service Agent for Dogs
This video is comedic gold. It shows what it would be like if there was a customer service line that dogs could call with their complaints about being disciplined.

The "dog" calling in had to have a bath and was unhappy, but the customer service agent was ready to jump in and help. He helped explain that there was mud involved, and that's why the dog needed to get clean.

It's a daymaker, and we hope that there are many more of these coming soon!
3 Tips To Keep Your Elderly Pup Moving
  1. Low-Impact Exercise: Opt for low-impact exercises that are gentle on your elderly dog's joints but still provide physical activity. Activities such as short walks, swimming (if your dog enjoys water), and gentle play sessions can help maintain mobility without causing discomfort or strain. Be mindful of your dog's pace and endurance, and adjust the duration and intensity of activities accordingly.

  2. Joint Health Supplements: Consider adding joint health supplements to your elderly dog's diet to support their mobility and comfort. Glucosamine, chondroitin, and omega-3 fatty acids are commonly recommended supplements that can help maintain joint health and reduce inflammation. Consult with your veterinarian to determine the right supplements and dosage for your dog's specific needs.

  3. Regular Veterinary Check-Ups: Schedule regular check-ups with your veterinarian to monitor your elderly dog's overall health and address any age-related concerns promptly. Your vet can assess your dog's mobility, provide guidance on managing arthritis or other joint issues, and recommend appropriate exercise routines and treatments. Early detection and management of age-related conditions can help maintain your dog's mobility and quality of life as they age.
