πŸ• Can dogs enjoy popcorn?

"If there is a heaven, it's certain our animals are to be there. Their lives become so interwoven with our own, it would take more than an archangel to detangle them."
- Pam Brown

Did You Know...?
Joke: What looks like a dog, eats dog food, lives in a dog house, and is very dangerous?

(scroll to the bottom to find the answer!)
This Dog Stole the Show at the Oscars
Messi is a seven-year-old border collie who starred in the Oscar-nominated film Anatomy of a Fall. Although none of the nominations were for Messi himself, he stole the show anyway. The Oscars prerecorded a clip where Messi appeared to clap with the other guests. People believed he could do that after his incredible performance in the movie. We vote for more animals at the awards shows going forward. Bravo Messi!
Is Popcorn Safe for Dogs?
If you plan to catch up on some of the Oscar nominees with a movie night, you might be prepping some popcorn to snack on. Dogs love to clean up the floor and grab any leftover snacks, but is popcorn safe for them to eat? It turns out popcorn itself is not bad for dogs.

Popped kernels of corn contain several minerals and vitamins important to canine nutrition, plus fiber. But, the problem is with the things we add to popcorn to make it taste good ourselves. If you put butter, oils, salt, and other toppings on your popcorn, it can be upsetting to a dog's intestines. Fats and oils can lead to obesity as well.

If you snack on plain, air-popped popcorn, it's safe for dogs to eat in small quantities. Popcorn with anything else on top should be kept away from your dog whenever possible.
5 Tips To Help Your Dog Relax
  1. Quiet Time: Designate a peaceful area in your home where your dog can unwind, away from noise and distractions. This could be a cozy corner with their bed or a crate covered with a blanket for added privacy.

  2. Gentle Massage: Practice gentle massage techniques on your dog's body to promote relaxation and alleviate muscle tension. Focus on areas like the shoulders, neck, and back, using slow and soothing strokes.

  3. Deep Breathing: Encourage deep breathing exercises by calmly breathing in and out with your dog. This synchronized breathing can help both you and your dog relax, fostering a sense of connection and calmness.

  4. Calming Music: Play soft, instrumental music or specially curated playlists designed to soothe dogs. The rhythmic patterns and melodic tones can have a calming effect, especially during stressful situations like thunderstorms or fireworks.

  5. Create Safe Spaces: Designate a quiet area in your home where your dog can retreat when feeling stressed. This could be a cozy corner with their bed or a crate covered with a blanket to create a den-like environment.

How Humans Can Relax Too...
If you've ever struggled to enjoy cannabis due to the harshness of smoking or vaping, you're not alone. That's why these new cannabis gummies caught our eye.

Mood is an online dispensary that has invented a "joint within a gummy" that's extremely potent yet federally-legal. Their gummies are formulated to tap into the human body's endocannabinoid system.

Although this system was discovered in the 1990's, farmers and scientists at Mood were among the first to figure out how to tap into it with cannabis gummies. Just 1 of their rapid onset THC gummies can get you feeling right within 5 minutes!

DOTD - Meet Kenneth
This handsome boy is really showing off with a flower in his mouth, and for good reason—Kenneth is available for adoption at the Humane Society of Memphis & Shelby County. He was submitted by Suzanne, who works with the dogs at the facility.

She called him a distinguished gentleman who plays with every dog he meets. He has taken the role of a father figure with the pups, too.

He's a bit shy with new people but warms up quickly. Hip dysplasia gives him a goofy switch when he walks, and he may require surgery in the future, but he's got plenty of pep in his step. Thanks, Suzanne, for sharing!

5 Signs Your Pup Is Healthy
  1. Healthy Weight: A healthy dog should have a defined waistline when viewed from above and an abdomen that is slightly tucked up. You should be able to feel your dog's ribs easily with gentle pressure, but they should not be protruding prominently.

  2. Clean and Clear Eyes: Healthy dogs have bright, clear eyes with no signs of redness, discharge, or excessive tearing. The whites of their eyes should be clear, and their pupils should be equal in size and responsive to light.

  3. Shiny Coat and Healthy Skin: A healthy dog's coat should be shiny, smooth, and free from flakes, dandruff, or bald patches. Their skin should be supple and free from redness, irritation, or signs of infection such as sores or hot spots.

  4. Energetic Behavior: Healthy dogs are generally active, alert, and playful. They should have good stamina during walks or play sessions and show enthusiasm for activities they enjoy. While resting is normal, excessive lethargy or reluctance to engage in activities may indicate underlying health issues.

  5. Regular Eating and Drinking Habits: A healthy dog should have a good appetite and maintain regular eating and drinking habits. They should eagerly consume their food and water without hesitation or reluctance. Any changes in appetite or thirst levels may warrant a visit to the veterinarian to rule out health concerns.
