πŸ• Take your dog to the ball park

"Dogs do not ruin their sleep worrying about how to keep the objects they have, and to obtain the objects they have not. There is nothing of value they have to bequeath except their love and faith."
- Eugene O'Neill

Happy Tuesday! Here's the scoop:
  • This Seadog got two special awards
  • Bring your dog along to the ballpark at these 10 spots

Did You Know...?
What breed is Chomp, the Cleveland Browns mascot?

(scroll to the bottom to find the answer!)
Did You Know There Was a Mascot Hall of Fame?
Mascots are an important part of a sports experience. They help get the fans energized in the stands and spend time in the communities in between sporting events. There is a popular mascot from Portland, Maine who is part of the Sea Dogs.

Recently, there was an online poll to help award a mascot with the Golden Reggy. This award is named after the mascot for the Mascot Hall of Fame, Reggy. The Hall of Fame is located in Whiting, Indiana, and doubles as an interactive museum for children.

Thanks to the fans of the Sea Dogs, their mascot, Slugger, was the recipient of two different awards for the minor league level. He won the award for the "Greatest Community Impact" and the "Best In-Game Skit or Routine." Slugger was grateful to all his fans who voted to help him win. We love to see a dog out there working for the community (even if he doesn't have any actual canine DNA under that costume.
Take Your Pup Out to the Ball Game
There is nothing better than a baseball game on a warm summer evening unless, of course, you can bring your dog along for the experience. The MLB is one of the only professional sports leagues to welcome our four-legged friends to some of their ballparks.

Check out the special dog-friendly games at these popular baseball parks:
  1. The Backyard in San Diego, CA - The Padres play at Petco Park, so it makes sense that the field has some fun games where fans can bring their dogs away. Sit in the VIP pet section, which has artificial cooling turf and a relief area.
  2. PNC Park in Pittsburgh, PA - The Pirates host pup nights at PNC Park about once a month throughout the summer. A portion of each ticket sold to those games goes to local animal shelters.
  3. The Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati, OH - Dress your dog up in Reds attire for the Bark in the Park nights and get a ticket with a pregame Pet Expo in the First Star Fan Zone.
  4. T-Mobile Park in Seattle, WA - The Emerald City is known for being dog-friendly, so of course, the Mariners host a few home games where dogs are welcome at the stadium. There are special giveaways, and the dogs can run the bases after the game.
  5. Nationals Park in Washington, DC - Dogs are invited to six home games this year to cheer on the Nationals. Maybe they are talented enough to howl along with Take Me Out to the Ball Game.
  6. Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City, MO - Join the "tail" gate before a Royals game during one of their dog-friendly events this summer. They give out fun swag items, like collapsible travel bowls and dog hats.
  7. Minute Maid Park in Houston, TX - Once a year, the Astros invite pups to their Dog Day event. Dogs under 80 lbs can have their own seat, but even the big dogs have access to standing room only to cheer on their favorite team.
  8. Chase Field in Phoenix, AZ - This stadium has a retractable roof to protect pups (and their people) from the heat while cheering for the Diamondbacks. Dogs attending their annual event also receive a swag bag of goodies.
  9. Oracle Park in San Francisco, CA - Enjoy an evening out with your dog to root for the Giants. Make sure to arrive early to parade around the track and get some energy out.
  10. Tropicana Field in Tampa, FL - Bring your dog to the Party Deck for a Rays game during their Dog Day at the Rays. Visit Ferg's Sports Bar nearby, which features an attached off-leash dog park.
Make sure to share your pictures if you take your pup to a baseball game this summer. Maybe they will even get the bug to train for the Savannah Bananas like the pup featured below.
Watch Ripken the Bat Dog in Action
The Savannah Bananas are known for their viral videos in which the team breaks into dances on the field during baseball games, but they also have a popular dog on the roster. Ripken is their bat dog. You can see him in action in this video, where he helps the batter on deck.
