🐕 Dogs might have restless nights too

"If your dog thinks you're the greatest person in the world, don't seek a second opinion."
- Im Fiebig

Happy Tuesday! Here's the scoop:
Did You Know...?
True or False: There are more homeless animals on the street than humans.

This Is Us Star Says Dog Found Her
Mandy Moore is an animal lover. With two young boys, a 14-year-old Shepherd mix rescue dog, and three cats, she was not looking for a dog, but a dog was looking for her family. Moore's nanny found a dog wandering the streets, when she brought him back, they discovered he was not chipped nor neutered. The dog also resembled a dog that Moore had passed away in 2020.

Moore took the dog in. The other animals are warming up, but he's putting on a show of love. When she showed her young boys a picture of him and asked what they should name him, her son immediately responded, "Marshmallow." We think this pup is lucky to have been welcomed into such an animal-loving family
Dogs Have Restless Nights, Too
We humans aren't the only ones losing sleep at night when we are stressed about something. A new study shows that our canine companions might be kept awake at night by their own worries. It turns out that positive and negative experiences impact a dog's sleep pattern.

The study looked at a variety of breeds and ages. Owners were asked questions about the dogs' personality traits: extraversion, openness, agreeableness, and conscientiousness. Once they gathered information, the dogs were exposed to positive and negative experiences. Dogs with positive experiences had deeper and more consistent sleep. On the other hand, those with negative experiences had difficulty staying asleep.

These results are similar to the human experience. If your dog is a restless sleeper, you should take a look at their activities throughout the day and see if there are moments when they are faced with strangers or in uncomfortable situations. Helping them could help you all sleep better.

Choosing The Right Supplements For Your Pup's Age
Choosing the right supplements for your furry companion is crucial to ensure their health and vitality at every stage of life. Dogs, like humans, have varying nutritional needs as they age. Here's a guide to supplements suitable for dogs at different life stages.

For puppies, whose bodies are rapidly growing and developing, supplements rich in calcium and phosphorus aid in bone formation and support healthy skeletal development. Additionally, omega-3 fatty acids promote brain development and a shiny coat.

Adult dogs benefit from a well-rounded supplement regimen that includes vitamins such as A, D, and E for overall health maintenance. Omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids continue to support skin and coat health, while glucosamine and chondroitin aid in maintaining joint health and mobility, which can become more of a concern as dogs age.

As dogs enter their senior years, joint health becomes even more critical. Supplements containing glucosamine, chondroitin, and MSM can help alleviate arthritis symptoms and maintain mobility. Antioxidants such as vitamin C and E support immune function and protect against cellular damage associated with aging.

Before introducing any supplements, consult with your veterinarian to ensure they are appropriate for your dog's specific needs and health status. Remember, supplements should complement a balanced diet, not replace it, and moderation is key to ensuring your dog's well-being at every age.

Kirby Prepares His "Dating Profile"
The Seattle Humane Society is using some humor to help the dogs get some attention and potentially find a family to adopt them. This video shows Kirby getting pretty creative about what he wants to put on his "resume" alongside his picture. Hopefully, this adorable comedy set gets Kirby a forever home quickly. We would hate to see him lose any sleep in the future.
Do Dogs Dream?
Yes, dogs do dream. Like humans, dogs experience REM (rapid eye movement) sleep, which is when dreaming occurs. During this stage of sleep, their brains are highly active, and their bodies may twitch, whimper, or make other involuntary movements. Studies using brain imaging techniques have shown that dogs exhibit similar patterns of brain activity during REM sleep as humans, suggesting that they are indeed dreaming.

What do dogs dream about? While we can't know for sure, it's believed that dogs may dream about activities or experiences from their daily lives. For example, a dog may dream about playing fetch, chasing squirrels, or interacting with their human family members. Dogs' dreams are likely influenced by their individual personalities, experiences, and memories, just like ours are.

Observing your dog during sleep can offer clues about their dreams. If your dog is twitching or making soft barking sounds while asleep, they may be engaged in a dream. However, it's important to note that not all movements during sleep indicate dreaming; some may simply be reflexive movements or responses to external stimuli.

In conclusion, the evidence suggests that dogs do indeed dream, providing another fascinating insight into the rich inner lives of our canine companions.
