Fashion is not just for humans. High-fashion boutiques for canines are found in cities worldwide. But it's not a new phenomenon. Dog fashions have been a part of history, so let's take a quick look back.
Collars are among the most common accessories for dogs. Their origins can be traced back to the ancient Egyptians. In the hieroglyphics, you can see dogs with beautiful collars stamped with scenes from the dog's life. The Ancient Greeks added spikes to collars to make them more functional. During the Middle Ages, collars became more stylish. Dogs became like accessories for upper-class women, and their collars reflected it with leather, iron, and gemstones.
In Mesopotamia, short-haired dogs wore sporting outfits that kept them warm. It wasn't until the 1900s that more people began dressing their dogs in costumes. Nothing skyrocketed dog fashion like Paris Hilton. This socialite dressed her dog, Tinkerbell, in statement outfits daily. There were pink tutus, diamond collars, and personalized sweatsuits for her dog.
Today, dog fashion shows are happening in New York, London, and Paris during fashion weeks. Many companies are creating specialized pet sections on their websites and in stores. It's not just her, either. Kendall Jenner, Dua Lipa, and Hailey Beiber have been pictured with their dogs often.
