Did You Know...?
What is the most popular dog breed in Ireland?

Dogs Celebrate St. Patrick's Day Too
Sunday is March 17, meaning the streets will be filled with people in every shade of green. Dogs don't have to miss out on the fun. You can find costumes of all shapes and sizes for St. Patrick's Day.

Leprechaun costumes seem to be the most popular for pups, but you can also find tutus, beaded necklaces, and bandanas covered in shamrocks. One dog in this collection of festive pups is even rocking a fake orange beard, which is hilarious on almost any breed!

This pup pictured below was sent in by one of our readers. His name is Biggie, and he is a cuddly eight-year-old baby. That bow tie is perfect for St. Patrick's Day!

Meet Stoli & Tango DOTD Sponsored by ButcherBox For Pets
We believe in better for the whole pack- because your pets are family, too. #YourPackDeservesIt
This dynamic duo is our dog(s) of the week feature. Springtime means all the pups get to spend more time outside enjoying yards, parks, and longer walks. This is a father/son duo. Tango is the son on the right. Stoli is the black pup, and he is Tango's father. They love being outside together. Their favorite activities are bird hunting and playing fetch with their favorite toys.
Can Dogs Drink Beer?
Many people celebrate St. Patrick's Day with a nice, cold beer, possibly colored green with food coloring. Can dogs join in and have a sip? The short answer is no. Beer is bad for dogs, and any alcohol could cause alcohol poisoning in your pup.

During the fermentation process, alcohol is produced. Dogs are smaller than humans, so one small sip can have a big effect on them. A few licks are enough to make some small dogs appear "drunk." They can have difficulty walking and standing and become very tired.

Alcohol poisoning in a dog could include symptoms like decreased and slowed breathing, low body temperature, and low blood sugar. If you are worried that your dog has consumed beer, contact your vet right away. They can help you determine next steps and provide supportive care.

There is some good news. There are fun products made for dogs that look. Dogs aren't drawn to beer; they are just curious. So Busch Beer makes a Busch Dog Brew that doesn't include any beer but instead a flavored beef broth in a can. If you want to share a St. Patrick's Day toast with your dog, grab a can of this and see how they like it.

St. Patty's Day Treats
These DIY St. Patty's Day treats might be even better than a canned "dog beer" to celebrate this holiday. The green and yellow colors will make them festive (even if your dog can't see the difference.) They would make fun treats for your neighborhood dogs as well.

St. Patrick's Day Treats
You'll need: Light-colored roll-and-cut dough (use your dog's favorite recipe), turmeric powder, spirulina powder, and holiday-themed cookie cutters
  1. Preheat the oven and get out supplies.
  2. Prepare your dough. Choose a dough that is lighter in color to make the coloring easier. Keep the dough a bit wetter than usual to help with the colors.
  3. Split the dough into three equal portions. Leave one as is. Add turmeric powder to one section and mix it to turn the dough yellow. Add spirulina powder to the third section and mix it to get the color green.
  4. Marble the dough by separating the dough into smaller pieces. Gather the pieces with different colors and squeeze them into a loose ball.
  5. Roll out the dough once you have the colors mixed enough. Use cookie cutters to get specific shapes.
  6. Cook the treats. Be careful not to let them turn brown if you want the colors to pop. Let them cool before serving them to your dog.
