Thousands Saved From a Research Facility
In July 2022, a federal judge approved a plan to remove dogs from the Envigo breeding and research facility in Cumberland, VA. It was discovered that the dogs were living in highly distressful conditions. The facility had over 4,000 beagles on site, many injured or ill. Over a 60-day period, volunteers and rescue workers removed the dogs and placed them in shelters and foster care to await adoptions.

Fin was the last dog removed in September 2023. He is a two-year-old beagle and was adopted within a few weeks of rescue by Suzanne Brown-Pelletier. She told the NY Times that she's been working to make up for the years of lost love. She has renamed him Sir Biscuit of Barkingham, or Biscuit for short. He loves getting kisses on his nose, which she lovingly calls the beagle bugle. Brown-Pelletier has two spaniels, Albert and Winston, who are helping Biscuit overcome his anxiety and fears. He is the pup pictured below.

The rescue effort for these dogs drew attention nationwide. Governor Phil Murphy of New Jersey adopted a dog, Morty, from the facility, and Prince Harry and Meghan were inspired to adopt a beagle named Momma Mia themselves. These dogs had never seen grass before or enjoyed treats, so the adjustment period was challenging for some of the pups.

Some of the beagles have even been reunited at meet-ups with their new families over the last few months. Seeing their progress is incredible, and we are so grateful for all the hard work done by organizers and volunteers to make this happen

Plan a Special Valentine's Day With Your Dog
Valentine's Day celebrates love of all kinds, so showing our love for our dogs and including them in the holiday fun makes sense. Who needs fancy dinner reservations when you can spend a wonderful evening with your pup (and maybe a human date)? This is a list of ideas on how you can enjoy some special time with your canine companion and make some memories with your dog.
  1. Take a nice long walk. Discover a new route and enjoy the fresh air. You can try a new dog park or just explore a new walking path in your neighborhood. It will be a fun sniff adventure and a healthy choice for everyone.
  2. Work on a new trick. Training is a great bonding experience with your dog. Think of a fun Valentine's Day-inspired trick, like a hug or dancing, and work on it with your dog.
  3. Have a "date night" in. Search for a good movie, make some popcorn, and snuggle up on the couch with your pooch. Some of our favorites include Bolt, Lady and the Tramp, and Homeward Bound.
  4. Give your dog a gift. Pick out a new toy or special treat from the pet store. Reward them with something fun and have some playtime.
  5. Schedule a grooming appointment. Use this as an excuse to get your pup all dolled up with a fresh cut and bath. You can also set up an at-home spa day and organize treatments for both of you to enjoy.
  6. Bake a special treat for your dog. We featured some great recipes last week, and there will be more tomorrow and Wednesday. Create something from scratch for your dog, and you'll surely have their affection.
  7. Try a new sport. Dog sports are a great way to connect with your dog and learn something new together. You can try different agility courses and obedience classes or even explore a dog's natural urges, such as chasing and sniffing.
  8. Massage your dog. If you have an athletic dog, they can likely benefit from a nice massage, just like humans. A massage can help reduce stress and anxiety, increase circulation, and strengthen your bond.
  9. Try a new form of mental stimulation. Puzzle toys are fun for dogs and encourage them to use their brains in new ways.

Omega-3 Boost: The Benefits of Fish Oil for Dogs
Fish oil stands out as a remarkable supplement for enhancing the health and vitality of our canine companions. Packed with omega-3 fatty acids like EPA and DHA, fish oil offers a myriad of advantages for dogs' overall well-being.

Firstly, fish oil is renowned for promoting healthy skin and coat in dogs. Its moisturizing properties can alleviate dryness, itching, and flakiness, providing relief for dogs suffering from allergies or skin conditions. A shiny, lustrous coat is not just aesthetically pleasing but also indicative of good skin health.

Moreover, the anti-inflammatory properties of omega-3 fatty acids can benefit dogs with joint issues. Fish oil can help reduce joint pain and stiffness, improving mobility and comfort, particularly in older dogs or those with arthritis. By supporting joint health, fish oil enables dogs to maintain an active and fulfilling lifestyle.

Additionally, omega-3 fatty acids play a vital role in cognitive function and heart health for dogs. Regular supplementation with fish oil can contribute to mental acuity and cardiovascular well-being, promoting overall vitality and longevity.

When considering fish oil for your furry friend, opt for high-quality supplements formulated specifically for dogs. Consulting with your veterinarian is essential to determine the appropriate dosage and ensure the supplement aligns with your dog's individual needs. Incorporating fish oil into your dog's diet can be a simple yet impactful way to support their health and happiness for years to come.

DOTD - Meet Elsa
Elsa isn't just the princess from Frozen, she is also our featured dog of the day today. Elsa lives in Northwood, New Hampshire where they have gotten some great snow this year. She shares her home with her mom, dad, human brother, and fur sister. We just love the flowers she is rocking on her bandana, like spring is just around the corner.

Creative Ways Dogs Can Help You Earn Extra Income
Dogs aren't just beloved companions; they can also be valuable assets in your quest to earn extra income. With a little creativity and ingenuity, you can leverage your canine companion's unique qualities to generate additional revenue streams. Here are some pawsitively profitable ideas:

Many dog owners are in need of reliable caregivers to look after their furry friends while they're away at work or on vacation. By providing trustworthy and compassionate care, you can build a loyal clientele and earn money doing something you love.

Moreover, explore opportunities in the growing pet photography industry. Use your dog as a model to showcase your photography skills, or offer pet photography sessions to fellow dog owners looking to capture special moments with their beloved pets. With the right marketing and networking, you can turn your passion for photography into a lucrative business venture.

Additionally, tap into the booming market for homemade dog treats and accessories. Get creative in the kitchen and whip up delicious and nutritious treats for dogs, or craft stylish and functional accessories such as leashes, collars, and bandanas. Selling your homemade products at local markets, online platforms, or pet stores can be a paw-some way to earn extra income while indulging your entrepreneurial spirit.

In conclusion, with a little entrepreneurial spirit and a furry friend by your side, the possibilities for earning extra income with dogs are endless.
