Groomer Went Above and Beyond to Help This Stray
A couple was driving along a highway in Florida when the sight of a dog wandering aimlessly caught their attention. The dog's fur was matted severely, making it hard for him to move and see. He was clearly abandoned and neglected, so the pair couldn't leave him there. They took him with them in their car. The couple couldn't care for the dog overnight, so they sent an appeal on social media and got an answer.

Groomer Kari Falla answered the couple and knew the poor dog couldn't wait until the next day to get cleaned up. She rushed to her grooming shop, BGE Grooming Salon, at 3:00 in the morning. For an hour, she worked on the dog and eventually got him cleaned up and shaved. The dog earned the nickname of Lucky.

The next morning, Lucky went to the veterinarian, and they discovered that he was also blind and deaf. He likely would not have survived the night if that couple hadn't stopped. The vet updated Lucky on vaccinations and dental cleaning, and they began a search for a permanent home. Lucky's story inspired Zachary Blair, and he couldn't wait to offer him a forever home. We love a happy ending like this one!

Should You Get An Electric Fence For Your Dog?
Invisible fences have risen in popularity in recent years. Dog owners turn to electric fences to contain their dogs in the yard without installing a full fencing system. These systems work by administering a shock to the dog when they try to cross a certain border. Some invisible fences provide a warning sound before.

It's important to have a way to keep your dog safe from roads and interactions with strange dogs or people, but experts don't always recommend these e-fences. The shock works as a punishment to correct behavior, and many trainers don't believe it is effective. The dog is being trained that there will be pain if they get too far from the house.

One fear of many dog owners is that the shock will physically hurt the dog. It's impossible for us to gauge the full impact of the shock ourselves. Size and temperament affect sensitivity, and some dogs react strongly to the warning noises.

Finally, the electric fences don't always do their work to contain the dogs. Some dogs go outside of the fence line regardless of shock or pain. Some might get excited about something and chase, but when it comes to returning to the yard, there might be the fear of getting shocked again.

The best dog options are standard fences made from wood, metal, or other materials. You can also work on boundary training with GPS collars to monitor your dog's location. The app will notify you if your dog leaves the boundaries that have been set. Positive reinforcement is always the best training method. Keep that pup safe in your yard and enjoy the peace of mind!

Essential Vitamins and Minerals for Dogs
Dogs, like humans, require a balanced diet to thrive, encompassing essential vitamins and minerals crucial for their overall health. While commercial dog foods typically aim to meet these nutritional needs, concerns arise regarding whether additional supplements are necessary to ensure optimal well-being.

Vitamins such as A, D, E, and various B-complex vitamins play vital roles in a dog's immune function, vision, bone health, and metabolism. Similarly, minerals like calcium, phosphorus, magnesium, and potassium are essential for skeletal development, muscle function, and electrolyte balance.

In many cases, well-formulated commercial dog foods provide adequate levels of these essential nutrients. However, factors such as a dog's age, breed, activity level, and underlying health conditions can influence their nutritional requirements.

Consulting with a veterinarian is crucial to determine if supplements are needed. Excessive intake of certain vitamins and minerals can lead to adverse health effects, underscoring the importance of tailored nutritional advice. Additionally, homemade diets may lack proper balance, warranting supplementation or dietary adjustments.

Ultimately, while some dogs may benefit from targeted supplementation, others may obtain sufficient nutrients from a balanced diet alone. Understanding individual dietary needs and consulting with veterinary professionals can help ensure dogs receive the essential vitamins and minerals necessary for optimal health and vitality.

Shelter Dogs Get a Front Row Seat to a Magic Show
John Stessel is a popular magician who puts on a great magic show. Recently, he found a brand new audience. He visits the St. Hubert's Animal Welfare Center in New Jersey regularly and performs his tricks for the dogs. The team there films the dog's reactions to his tricks, which helps get them adopted.

Dogs are incredibly smart, so by using magic Stessel showcases their personality as they work to figure out how he tricked them. The poor magician is allergic to dogs so he takes multiple antihistamines before visiting the shelter, but he says it's worth it. He calls this one of his superpowers.

Watch the video of these dogs reacting when Stessel makes their treats and toys disappear. They simply cannot figure it out and enjoy the process of climbing all over him to figure out what he's done. Can't say we blame them, we'd be frantically searching for our favorite items if they were taken by a magician, too.
