Help Your Dog Stay Calm During a Move
Moving homes is a stressful situation for everyone involved, including your animals. We know how important your dogs are to your family. Making the move less stressful for your pets will help them both settle in quicker to their new home and find a new routine.

These tips will help your dog feel comfortable and secure, which will help you adjust sooner as well. The list is broken down into tips for before, during, and after the move. By following these tips, you and your pets both will be more emotionally and physically prepared for the big move.

Before Your Move:
  • Schedule a check-up with your vet. Get all the vaccinations up to date. Ask for all your dog's medical records. See if your vet has any recommendations for your new neighborhood.
  • Update your dog's identification. You'll want new ID tags with updated contact information and to change the address on your pup's microchip.
  • Check the regulations in your new home. If your dog needs to be licensed, fill out the application ahead of time so your dog is ready for walks and playtime once you arrive.
  • Pack a pet essentials kit. Transitions can be hard, and when all of your belongings are packed up for a move, it's difficult to locate things. Pack a bag of all the things your dog needs and keep it somewhere that is easily accessible. This should include food, water, medicine, toys, and grooming essentials.
  • Consider hiring a moving company. Take some of the stress off of your plate so you can focus on your family and animals. If you have the budget for it, consider hiring someone to help with your move logistics.
During Your Move:
  • Use a comfortable and safe carrier. If you are moving long-distance, ensure your dog has somewhere to hang out during the journey.
  • Stick to your routine. Try to keep the flow of your day as close to normal as possible. Keep feeding and bathroom times the same to provide consistency.
  • Plan rest stops. If you are driving a long distance, plan out stops you can make to get some exercise with your dog and allow them time to stretch and use the bathroom.
After Your Move:
  • Prep your new home. Pet-proof the new place and take care of any spots that might be dangerous for your dog. Check for holes in the fence or anything hazardous that your pup could get into.
  • Establish a routine. If you need to change up the routine at all for your dog, it's important to start transitioning them gently to the new schedule. Introduce them to new rooms and spaces in your home to get them comfortable.
  • Explore your new neighborhood. Walk your dog to new parks and places to sniff and explore. Spending time exploring together will also help to strengthen the bond between you and your pup.
  • Find a new veterinarian. Research the options in your new area and contact vets to find someone who is accepting new patients. Get the medical records transferred over.
  • Introduce your dog to the neighbors slowly. There may be potential playmates in your new neighborhood. Let your dog meet other people and dogs slowly while they adjust. This can help your pup build a community. Plus, you can get advice from other local dog owners about vets, pet stores, and great walking paths.

A Sweet Valentine's Day Treat for Your Pup
There are many ways to reward your pup, but treats are the most popular within the canine community. For this Valentine's Day, surprise your pup with some homemade treats and let them feel the love that you put into baking them. This recipe only requires four ingredients, and your dog will absolutely love how they turn out!

Valentine's Day Dog Treats
You'll need: 1 ½ cups of brown rice flour, ¼ cup of unsweetened applesauce, one ripe banana, and ⅓ cup of chopped and steamed beets.
  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
  2. Scrub the beets and put them in a steamer basket. Steam for 30-40 minutes. When done, you should be able to pierce them easily with a fork. Allow to cool.
  3. Slice the beet in half and remove the skin completely. There must be no skin in the treats. Chop the beet and measure out ⅓ cups.
  4. Add beets, applesauce, and peeled banana to a blender and puree.
  5. Mix the puree into a bowl with the flour. Stir until combined. Refrigerate for 10 minutes.
  6. Use parchment paper to roll out the dough to about ½ inch thickness.
  7. Cut out the dough with a heart-shaped cookie cutter (or whatever shape you have). You can place the treats close together on the baking sheet because they don't expand much.
  8. Bake for 10 - 12 minutes. Once they are cooled, serve them to your dog! Be sure to keep any leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to one week.

From Vineyard To Wagging Tails...
In recent years, wineries worldwide have been embracing a delightful trend: dog-friendly culture. Gone are the days when wine tasting was strictly a human affair. Today, many vineyards warmly welcome four-legged friends into their tasting rooms and outdoor spaces, recognizing the special bond between wine enthusiasts and their beloved canine companions.

This shift towards dog-friendly atmospheres isn't merely a passing fad; it reflects a deeper understanding of the role dogs play in people's lives. Winery owners and managers have come to realize that for many patrons, their dogs are more than just pets—they're cherished members of the family. By accommodating furry friends, wineries are creating inclusive environments where visitors can fully enjoy their experience without having to leave their dogs behind.

From sprawling estates in Napa Valley to quaint family-owned vineyards in Tuscany, the embrace of dog-friendly culture is evident across the globe. Some wineries offer designated dog-friendly areas where pups can roam off-leash while their owners sip on fine wines. Others provide water bowls, treats, and even dog-friendly events such as "Yappy Hours" or "Paws and Pinot" parties.

Moreover, this trend isn't limited to traditional wine-tasting experiences. Wineries are also incorporating dogs into their branding and marketing efforts, featuring canine companions on labels, social media posts, and promotional materials. This not only enhances the winery's image but also resonates with dog-loving consumers who appreciate the acknowledgment of their furry friends.

In conclusion, the emergence of a dog-friendly culture in wineries signifies a broader shift towards more inclusive and welcoming spaces within the wine industry. By embracing our canine companions, wineries are not only catering to their human clientele but also celebrating the joy and companionship that dogs bring to our lives. So, the next time you plan a wine-tasting excursion, consider bringing along your furry friend for a truly paw-some experience.

5 Supplements For Your Pup You Should Know About
As our beloved canine companions age, their nutritional needs may change, and providing them with the right supplements can support their overall health and well-being. Here are five supplement recommendations to consider for older dogs:
  1. Glucosamine and Chondroitin: Joint health becomes increasingly important as dogs age, and supplements containing glucosamine and chondroitin can help support cartilage and joint function. These supplements can alleviate stiffness, promote mobility, and ease discomfort associated with conditions like arthritis.

  2. Omega-3 Fatty Acids: Omega-3 fatty acids, such as those found in fish oil supplements, are beneficial for older dogs' skin, coat, and joint health. They have anti-inflammatory properties that can reduce joint inflammation and support cognitive function, which is especially important for senior dogs experiencing cognitive decline.

  3. Probiotics: As dogs age, their digestive systems may become less efficient, leading to issues like diarrhea, constipation, or an imbalance of gut bacteria. Probiotic supplements can help maintain a healthy balance of beneficial bacteria in the gut, aiding digestion, supporting immune function, and promoting overall gastrointestinal health.

  4. Antioxidants: Antioxidants like vitamins C and E, as well as selenium and zinc, can help neutralize free radicals in the body, which are molecules that can cause cellular damage and contribute to aging-related issues. Antioxidant supplements can support immune function, promote healthy aging, and reduce the risk of chronic diseases in older dogs.

  5. Joint Support Formulas: In addition to glucosamine and chondroitin, joint support formulas may contain other ingredients like MSM (Methylsulfonylmethane) and hyaluronic acid, which further support joint health and mobility. These supplements can provide comprehensive support for aging joints, helping to maintain your senior dog's comfort and quality of life.

Before introducing any new supplements to your older dog's diet, it's essential to consult with your veterinarian to ensure they are safe and appropriate for your pet's specific health needs. With proper supplementation and veterinary guidance, you can help your senior dog enjoy a happy, healthy, and comfortable life in their golden years.
