πŸ• The famous Trenton Thunders bat dogs

"Such short little lives our pets have to spend with us, and they spend more of it waiting for us to come home each day. It is amazing how much love and laughter they bring into our lives and even how much closer we become with each other because of them."
- John Grogan

Who Needs a Bat Boy with Rookie and Dash Around?
The Trenton Thunder is the minor league baseball team for the New York Yankees. They have become a fan favorite thanks to the four-legged bat dogs that they train and employ. Dash is a Golden Retriever who has been training to become the fourth bat dog for the Thunder. He's working closely with Rookie and Green Leaf Pet Resort to learn the ropes.

All four generations of bat dogs have come from the same family. Chase was the first, Derby was his son who took over, and then his son, Rookie, started as a puppy in 2014. Dash is Rookie's cousin and is ready to take his spot in the lineup.

The main duty of a bat dog is to grab the bat that players drop once they hit and run to the bases. They bring the bats back to the dugout for the next player. These dogs are local celebrities; fans love watching the new recruits train. It usually takes some practice, and the first few appearances are a bit chaotic, with dogs running out to greet players and maybe even taking their own lap around the field!

Rookie spent some time with the famous Yankees player, Aaron Judge, and made friends with all the players that joined the team. The dog even visits Yankee Stadium to catch up with old friends sometimes. We can't wait to see how Dash steps up! If you're in Trenton, be sure to check out a game and witness these fabulous pups in person!

Take Your Pup's Tricks to the Next Level This Year
Teaching a dog new tricks is a very fun way to bond with them and build up your relationship. It exercises your pup's brain while also helping them form a closer connection with you. While many dogs have already mastered sit, stay, and lay down, these tricks take more time and patience, but the work is worth the reward!
  • Back up - Teach your dog to walk backward by using a treat and slowly backing up. The dog will naturally walk backward while keeping a nose on the treat. Continue to praise them as they take the steps.
  • Balance treats on the nose - Once your pup knows to sit and stay, you can challenge them by placing a small treat on their nose. See if they can keep it there for a few seconds. Once they have that down, work on flipping the treat up and catching it in their mouth.
  • Barrel/Roll Over - Dogs will naturally roll over if you hold a treat before them when lying down and slowly roll it over. Repeat this process until your dog does it on command.
  • Shoot hoops - Teach your dog to play basketball. Place a hoop on the ground, put the ball inside of it, and let your dog smell it. Start bouncing the ball all in front of them. Once they are comfortable with that sound, encourage them to put the ball inside the hoop with their nose. Praise them and give them treats.
  • Take a bow - Use a treat to guide your dog's head down like they are bowing. Do this repeatedly until they can start bowing on command.
  • Circle right, circle left - Guide dogs with a treat in a circle around you. As they are circling, give them treats and praise them. Repeat until they can go both directions on command.
  • Cover your eyes - Teach your pup to cover their eyes with their paws. Start with sit and stay, then guide them to touch your hand with their paws. Treat them whenever they put their paws up near their eyes until they can do it on their own after a command. Some people also called this the "embarrassed" tricks, because the dogs are making the same expression as if they were embarrassed.
  • Hide - Teach your dog to go to a certain hiding spot. Give them a treat when they get there, and then encourage them to stay there until released.
These advanced dog tricks are great for mentally stimulating your dog. It's engaging for the both of you, and it comes with the added bonus of showing off your dog's amazing skills and intelligence.

How Dogs Boost Your Mood
Having a furry friend isn't just about wagging tails and wet noses; it's also a powerful mood booster. Dogs, with their unconditional love and boundless energy, have a remarkable ability to lift our spirits and enhance our overall well-being.

One of the key contributors to this mood-boosting effect is the release of oxytocin, often referred to as the "love hormone." Interactions with our canine companions trigger the release of this hormone, promoting feelings of love, trust, and bonding. The simple act of petting or playing with your dog can lead to a surge in oxytocin levels, creating a sense of calm and happiness.

Moreover, dogs are excellent companions that offer emotional support and alleviate feelings of loneliness. Their joyful demeanor and constant companionship provide a sense of purpose and routine, which can be particularly beneficial for those experiencing stress or anxiety.

The physical activity involved in caring for a dog, such as walking or playing fetch, contributes to increased endorphin levels, the body's natural mood lifters. Regular exercise not only benefits the dog's health but also enhances the owner's physical and mental well-being.

In essence, the positive impact of having a dog extends beyond the realm of a pet-owner relationship; it becomes a source of joy, comfort, and emotional resilience, making every day brighter and more fulfilling.

Boost Your Mood
If you've ever struggled to enjoy cannabis due to the harshness of smoking or vaping, you're not alone. That's why these new cannabis gummies caught our eye.

Mood is an online dispensary that has invented a "joint within a gummy" that's extremely potent yet federally legal. Their gummies are formulated to tap into the human body's endocannabinoid system.

Although this system was discovered in the 1990s, farmers and scientists at Mood were among the first to figure out how to tap into it with cannabis gummies. Just 1 of their rapid-onset THC gummies can get you feeling right within 5 minutes! Learn more here.

Invest In Your Pup's Health
Investing in your dog's well-being and happiness can lead to a fulfilling and lasting relationship with your furry friend. Here are some areas where you can consider making thoughtful investments:
  1. Quality Nutrition: Invest in premium dog food that meets your pet's nutritional needs. A well-balanced diet contributes to your dog's overall health, energy levels, and longevity.

  2. Comfortable Bedding: Provide your dog with a cozy and comfortable bed. Dogs, like humans, appreciate a good night's sleep, and a comfortable bed can support their joints and improve their overall well-being.

  3. Interactive Toys: Stimulate your dog's mind with interactive toys that encourage play and mental engagement. Puzzle toys, treat-dispensing toys, and durable chew toys can provide hours of entertainment.

  4. Regular Veterinary Care: Regular check-ups and preventive veterinary care are essential investments in your dog's health. This includes vaccinations, dental care, and preventive medications to ensure a long and healthy life.

  5. Training Classes: Enroll your dog in training classes or hire a professional trainer to enhance obedience and strengthen your bond. Investing time and effort in training early on can lead to a well-behaved and happy companion.

  6. Grooming Tools: Quality grooming tools, such as brushes, nail clippers, and shampoos, contribute to your dog's physical health and appearance. Regular grooming not only keeps your dog clean but also helps identify potential health issues.

  7. Pet Insurance: Consider investing in pet insurance to help cover unexpected veterinary expenses. It provides financial peace of mind and ensures that your dog receives the necessary care in case of illness or injury.

By making strategic investments in your dog's life, you not only enhance their well-being but also deepen the bond between you and your four-legged friend.
