Last week, we shared a story about Mayor Max in Idyllwild, California, and we quickly realized, with great astonishment, that he's not the only canine politician in the United States. Georgetown, Colorado, has an honorary mayor named Parker the Snow Dog. He is very popular on his social media pages and helps remind people how to have fun and stay cherful in the snowy season. Parker is a four-year-old Bernese Mountain Dog. He's truly the perfect breed for a ski town. Parker was voted in on February 11, 2020. He helps bring smiles to the people of the town and also stays busy meeting sports teams like the Broncos and Rockies. Additionally, Parker even finds time to work hard as a therapy dog at the Easterseals camp in Rocky Mountain Village. Parker often hangs out and greets folks at the Loveland Ski Area, where he also serves as their official mascot. This dog works so hard, we hope he's showered with treats! | | Image courtesy of 5280.com | | Yeehaw! What Exactly is a Cowboy Corgi? Cowboy Corgis are a popular mix between a Pembroke Welsh Corgi and an Australian Cattle Dog (also known as a Blue Heeler.) They fall into the herding group and have a sturdy physique. Their coat is medium-length, has a thick undercoat and a coarse outer coat, and can be red, black, blue merle, and sable colored. This breed has a typical lifespan of 12-15 years. They'll need daily exercise and are high-energy dogs. You'll find success using positive reinforcement when training, but remember that this breed can be stubborn. Another common characteristic is their powerful bark. It can come out of nowhere and get attention quickly. Luckily, they are almost always just trying to get another treat or some extra ear scratches. If you are interested in a Cowboy Corgi, make sure you have a brush on hand to care for their coat and be ready for daily walks and playtime. Keep your pup stimulated, and they will be loving and loyal companions for your family. Make sure to share your corgi photos with us. We love to see them! | | Image courtesy of Dogtime | | Do Dogs Enjoy People Watching? Dogs, known for their keen sense of observation and emotional intelligence, often find joy in people-watching. While they may not comprehend the nuances of human interactions as we do, dogs are highly attuned to body language, facial expressions, and vocal tones. This makes the act of observing people intriguing and engaging for them. Dogs are naturally social animals, and watching people allows them to understand their human companions better. They can pick up on cues about their owners' moods, and intentions, and even predict activities such as walks or playtime. The varied sights and sounds of people going about their daily lives stimulate a dog's curiosity, providing mental stimulation and preventing boredom. Furthermore, dogs are pack animals, and watching people fosters a sense of connection. Seeing their owners or familiar faces in the neighborhood establishes a bond and reinforces the dog's sense of belonging. It's not just about the visual aspect; dogs also enjoy the olfactory experience of people-watching. The scents carried by the wind bring a wealth of information about the world, creating a multisensory experience that adds to their enjoyment. In conclusion, dogs do find joy in people-watching. It satisfies their social nature, provides mental stimulation, and strengthens their connection with humans and the world around them. So, the next time you catch your canine companion gazing out the window or sitting in the park, know that they are enjoying watching the world go by! | | Do You Enjoy People Watching As Well? Interactive Toys: Incorporate puzzle feeders and toys that dispense treats into your dog's routine. These toys stimulate problem-solving skills and keep your dog mentally engaged, encouraging them to work for their rewards. -
Obedience Training Sessions: Engage in regular training sessions to teach new commands. This not only reinforces discipline but also challenges your dog's cognitive abilities. Use positive reinforcement techniques such as treats and praise to motivate and reward correct responses. -
Novel Experiences: Introduce your dog to novel environments and experiences. Taking different routes during walks, exposing them to new smells, sounds, and textures, keeps their minds active. This exposure broadens their understanding of the world and sharpens their observational skills. -
Specialized Training Classes: Consider enrolling your dog in specialized classes such as agility courses, scent detection, or basic obedience. These classes provide mental stimulation and promote socialization with other dogs. -
Interactive Play: Allocate time for interactive play, incorporating games like hide and seek or retrieving specific items. These activities boost memory and problem-solving skills. Be patient, consistent, and make training sessions enjoyable for your dog. Incorporating these brain-training techniques into your routine ensures that your dog remains mentally sharp, leading to a happy and fulfilled companion ready to face the world with confidence and enthusiasm. | | Want To Train Your Brain?
