πŸ• This pup is smart enough to ring the doorbell

"Dogs are our link to paradise. They don't know evil or jealousy or discontent."
- Milan Kundera

Happy Monday! Here's the scoop:
Did You Know...?
Joke: What do you get when you cross a dog and a calculator?

(scroll to the bottom to find the answer!)
Mom! Answer the door, I'm home!
Rajah is an 18-month-old dog with a sense of adventure, but she is also terrified of fireworks (like so many other pups.) One afternoon, the sound of the bangs sent her fleeing. She flew right over the fence and disappeared. Her family searched for hours with no luck, and they were terrified that they wouldn't be able to track her down.

It turns out that Rajah was smart enough to figure things out on her own. After her day of adventures, she knew exactly how to get herself back home. What really surprised her family was the fact that she knew to ring the doorbell when she arrived to be let inside. Her owners captured the most adorable face on their doorbell camera.

Poor Rajah thought she might be in trouble and cowered a bit when her owners opened the door. She had quite a homecoming, and her parents were so happy to see her back safe and sound

Five Potential Tax Deductions for Pet Owners in 2024
It's tax day, and everyone is looking for a tax break. Pets cannot be claimed as dependents, but there's a chance you can write off some pet expenses. Here are the five most common pet tax deductions:
  1. Service and emotional support animal deduction - If your pet helps you in a medical capacity or performs specific services, you may be able to claim them on your taxes. Some examples include guide dogs for blind individuals or dogs that assist with mobility. Not all pets qualify and you must be able to prove that your dog helps treat a diagnosed need.
  2. Tax deductions for working animals - Business owners can get a tax deduction for pets that provide a service for their business. It will need to be a necessary part of operations. Keep records of the time the animal spends at your business and all the receipts for associated costs.
  3. Tax deductions for performance animals - If your pet performs in a way that earns you income, you may be able to claim them as a business expense. An example would be if your dog appears in television shows or commercials, they could qualify for influencer tax write-offs.
  4. Tax-deductible moving expenses for pets - If you are moving for a job, you may be able to claim the cost of transporting your pets. There are some stipulations around distance and length of time that stay employed with that role.
  5. Tax-deductible donations to pet charities - Caring for foster animals can get you a tax break in some situations. When you volunteer at animal shelters, you can deduct fuel costs. Some donations to non-profits are also deductible.
If you have any questions or are looking for additional clarifications, it's always advised to ask your accountant. They can help you find relevant tax breaks and file your taxes.

Plants That Are Safe For Your Pup
Many pet owners are aware of the benefits of having plants around the home, but it's crucial to choose ones that are safe for our furry friends. Luckily, several plants not only add beauty to our living spaces but also provide health benefits for dogs.

Spider Plant: Known for its air-purifying qualities, the spider plant is safe for dogs and adds a touch of greenery to any room. It's non-toxic and can help improve air quality by removing toxins like formaldehyde and xylene.

Basil: This aromatic herb isn't just for cooking; it's also safe for dogs and can even offer some health benefits. Basil contains antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties that may help improve digestion and boost the immune system.

Boston Fern: Unlike some other ferns that may be toxic to pets, the Boston fern is safe for dogs and adds a lush, tropical feel to indoor spaces. It's also known for its air-purifying abilities, helping to remove pollutants from the air.

Calendula: Also known as pot marigold, calendula is a safe and non-toxic plant that offers medicinal benefits for both dogs and humans. It's often used topically to soothe skin irritations and promote healing.

African Violet: These colorful flowering plants are safe for dogs and add a pop of color to any room. They're easy to care for and thrive in indoor environments, making them a popular choice for pet owners.

When selecting plants for your home, always research to ensure they're safe for dogs, and if in doubt, consult with your veterinarian. With the right choices, you can create a beautiful and pet-friendly environment that benefits both you and your canine companion."
