🐕 A day in the life of a dog walker

"Dogs, for a reason, that can only be described as divine, have the ability to forgive, let go of the past, and live each day joyously. It's something the rest of us strive for."
- Jennifer Skiff

Happy Monday! Here's the scoop:
Did You Know...?
True or False: The dog-walking industry employs more than 60,000 Americans.

He Makes a Good Living Walking Dogs
Ryan Stewart lives in New York and started a side hustle in 2002 between acting jobs. He started walking dogs and, over time, has built up a great reputation. Now, Stewart makes up to $120,000 a year doing something he loves.

He jokes that, at this point, he feels like part of the pack; dogs are just an extension of his arm. Even without a college degree, he can do something he enjoys and only works about 36 hours per week over six days. The six-hour shifts are intense. A good dog walker needs to be focused on the dogs nonstop to help keep them safe.

This job didn't start out making six figures. Stewart started by hanging out business cards on the sidewalks of NYC. His business slowly grew. Now, more than half of his clients are from referrals. He can be selective about the types of dogs and people he works with. He only responds to about 10% of website applications. No one wants to get a bad review after it doesn't work out initially, so he's learned to be selective.

Stewart has some other strict rules. He only uses his equipment, including four-foot leashes and collars. His group walks allows dogs to interact with one another and he's really good at reading the dogs and knowing who is paying attention.

There are some downsides, like paying his insurance and dealing with a lot of poop, but at the end of the day, Stewart is making his way by doing something he loves. We can't blame him. Spending the day with dogs and fresh air sounds pretty perfect.

A Day in the Life of a Dog Walker
Another dog walker, Helene Nash, shared her daily routine running her business, Hounds of Love London. She's been professionally walking dogs since 2018. Her first job came through the app Tailstir, and she opened her own business in September of that year.

A typical day for Nash starts with her own dogs, Max and Molly, waking her up around 6:30. She heads straight out for the morning walk, picking up dogs along the way. She keeps the groups small, and each day, she changes the order so that no two days are the same. Most decisions depend on traffic and how muddy the dogs get on their walk.

Some dogs live close to parks, but Nash tries to change their scenery by bringing them to different parks. She finishes up her day by around 4 PM and heads home to wash off the dirt, slobber, and dog hair. Only to climb on the couch with her own dogs and give them attention. Sounds like a lovely situation to us!

This New Toilet Paper Just Might Save the Planet
Every 24 hours, 27,000 trees are cut down to make toilet paper. To us, that feels like way too many — and Honeycomb agrees. That's why this small, female-founded brand created luxury, three-ply toilet tissue made from bamboo. It feels just like regular high-end toilet paper, but doesn't harm trees.

So why bamboo? It's the fastest-growing plant in the world — growing 100 times faster than the average tree — which means thousands of rolls can be produced in the time it takes for a single tree to grow back.

In honor of April being Earth Month, this is the last 24 hours for new customers to get 30% off when they use code DIG30. Expires 4/30!

DOTD - Meet Roxy
Roxy understands the idea of becoming one with nature. She actually just crawls into the hedges to rest. She is a seven-year-old Siberian Husky who spent her puppy years climbing into the plants in her backyard. Kim and Raoul call her their little furry flower. Enjoy those plants, Roxy!
