First Pup Allowed in Hospital Labor Ward
Belle is a two-year-old Staffordshire Bull Terrier who is now the first doggy midwife in the UK. She assisted her owner, Amee Tomkins, throughout her entire pregnancy journey and was able to go with her in the ambulance and into the labor ward when she gave birth. The service she provided helped her win the UK's Pet of the Year for 2023.

Tomkins had a C-section after doctors determined that it would be better for her anxiety and autism. Belle was allowed to stay with her before surgery and was ready in the room as soon as she was done. Belle will continue serving as Tomkins' service dog and now becomes a part of the baby's life too.

Do(g)-It-Yourself Easy No-Sew Dog Costume
If you are looking for an adorable dog costume but are lacking in the sewing skill department, don't worry! This is a simple project you can do for your dog.

Dog Pumpkin Mask & Bandana
You'll need: Template available in this link; Iron-on transfer paper, two light-colored A4 sheets of felt, orange or black ribbon, ruler, scissors, hemming tape, fabric marker pen, and a dog collar.
  1. Print out the mask and bandana iron-on template in color to the iron-on transfer paper.
  2. Cut out the pumpkin dog bandana and mask iron-on templates.
  3. Lay the mask printout on one of the felt sheets and cut out a rectangle around it.
  4. Create a rectangle on the other sheet of felt, by drawing a line across the full width of the sheet. You want the height to be about 4x the width of your dog's collar.
  5. Using the same felt sheet, mark a point in the center of the bottom edge. This will be used to create the triangle shape.
  6. Rule two lines from the bottom edges of the rectangle, and connect to your marked point to form the triangle bandana shape.
  7. Cut out felt bandana shape and set aside.
  8. Place your iron-on bandana and mask templates on the prepared fabric, then iron on.
  9. Cut out the mask and eye holes. Cut two strips of ribbon and attach the ribbon with hemming tape.
  10. Place the bandana face up. Apply hemming tape along the top, wrap around the collar, and then attach to the hemming tape seal.
