After 500 Days in a Shelter, This Black Lab Finds a Home
Social media might have some negatives, but there some serious benefits as well. For example, a volunteer at the Benton-Franklin Humane Society in Washington created a TikTok video featuring Butter, a three-year-old black lab who had been at the shelter for over 500 days. The video went viral and broke hearts all over the country.

The response was incredible, and Butter ended up with people offering to drive across the country to pick him up. Butter suffers from a bit of anxiety, but he is a sweet boy. Now, thanks to that viral video, he's found a home of his own!
Dogs are the Best Bus Stop Greeters
With kids back at school, dogs return to quiet households during the day. They are able to nap and rest up to be the most excited greeters when the school bus pulls up outside. If you are missing out on these heartwarming interactions, don't worry. The Dog People has pulled together six videos of dogs getting incredibly excited when their kids get home from school. You can watch these adorable reunions and enjoy that back-to-school nostalgia.

Protein Sources for Dogs Beyond Chicken & Beef
Pet food comes in so many different forms these days. Chicken and beef have been the two most popular protein sources for decades, but they are not the only options available. Alternative protein sources are becoming increasingly popular. Some dogs are sensitive or allergic to chicken or beef, while other pet owners are concerned with animal welfare and sustainability.

Here are some alternative protein sources to consider:
  • Insect protein - This is a highly sustainable and eco-friendly source of protein. It requires little land and water and has a low carbon footprint.
  • Plant-based protein - Chickpeas, peas, and lentils are plant-based protein options, but if you want to go completely plant-based, it's important to consult with your vet ahead of time.
  • Novel animal protein - Options like lamb, turkey, and fish are great options. These are nutritionally diverse and can have a lower fat content.
Talk to your vet about different diet options. They can help you find options that are healthy for your dog and still provide the essential nutrients they need.
