A Gathering of Goldens
If you love Golden Retrievers, you would have been in heaven at the Guisachan House in the Scottish Highlands. It was here that they recently celebrated the breed's 155th anniversary. This spot is known to be the ancestral home of the breed. Over 200 dogs and their owners came from across Scotland, the UK, Canada, Japan, North America, and Australia.

The event happens every five years and is organized by the Golden Retriever Club of Scotland. The festivities include seminars, workshops, games, demonstrations, and even a dog show competition. If this sounds like fun to you, mark your calendar for 2028!

Do(g)-It-Yourself Dog Shampoo
Dog shampoos are easy to make at home and can help save a few pennies at the pet store, especially if your dog tends to get into messes more often. There are many different recipes and combinations that you can choose from. We've got four recipes that are simple to help you get started.
  • Instant dog shampoo - Mix equal parts of vinegar, Castile soap, and baking soda in a bottle. This is considered a neutral combination and is safe for your dog's skin.
  • Oatmeal bath - For a soothing bath for your dog, grind up oats into a fine powder. Mix the powder into warm water until it's milky and smooth. You can also add in the optional high-fat milk or avocado oil at the end. Let your pup soak in this.
  • Flea-repellent dog shampoo - Help keep your dogs tick and flea-free with this DIY option. Mix 10 oz of warm water, one tablespoon of Castile soap, 2 oz of aloe vera gel, and two drops of lavender essential oil. Make sure to rinse thoroughly and avoid getting any soap in the pup's eyes.
  • Dry skin shampoo for dogs - If your pup is itchy and dry, try this shampoo to give them some relief. Mix 1 quart of water, 1 cup of baby shampoo (or dish soap), 1 cup of apple cider vinegar, ⅓ cup of glycerin, and two tablespoons of aloe vera gel in a spray bottle. This will also help after a long day in the sun.

Are Puppuccinos Bad for Dogs?
Many coffee chains offer dog owners a special pup cup when they pick up their coffee orders. Your dog loves it, but you might wonder if this is good for dogs. Most of these cups are simply whipped cream.

A veterinarian toxicologist confirms that many dogs don't experience any negative side effects from the occasional sweet treat in a pup cup. If they have any intolerance, it will likely be gas or diarrhea, which will stop as soon as the substance is out of their system.

Starbucks uses ingredients that are safe for dogs, but if you are visiting a shop that isn't a chain, make sure that their whipped cream doesn't use xylitol, which is toxic to dogs. It's found in low-sugar or sugar-free products. It's also important to remember that whipped cream is high in fat and shouldn't be given to your canine companion too often.
