The Most Magical 100th Birthday Celebration
Dr. Robert Moore from San Jose, California, celebrated his 100th birthday this summer. He is a retired San Jose State University dean and absolutely loves dogs. His family and friends call him the "dog whisperer." For this milestone birthday, his family wanted to do something special, so they used the Nextdoor app to invite neighbors to a surprise dog parade.

Based on the comments and feedback on the post, one of his daughters told NBC Bay Area that they expected around 20 to 30 dogs to show up. Instead, much to their surprise, there were around 200 dogs. Dogs showed up to greet Dr. Moore and get some ear scratches while wishing him a very happy birthday. He made sure to pet every single dog that came by, and was even able to name all the breeds correctly.

Dog lovers are a special community! What an incredible showing for a birthday celebration!

Dog of the Day: Meet Penny
Penny is five years old and loves being outside. She suffers from Cerebellar hypoplasia, a condition that impacts the development of the cerebellum, but that doesn't stop her. Her family says she has almost as much energy as the Energizer bunny. We hope she's enjoying these last few weeks of summer sunshine!

Is It Safe for Dogs to Eat a Vegetarian Diet?
Some people wonder if feeding their dogs a vegetarian diet is possible. Dogs are omnivores naturally with a prey drive to help them hunt, but it is possible, and there a few benefits, to feeding dogs a vegetarian diet.

If dogs have food allergies or are sensitive to traditional meat-based diets, vegetarianism might be an option. It can also help with weight management. It's important to ensure that your dog gets a fully balanced diet, so it's always critical to consult a veterinarian before making the switch.

Protein sources for a dog on a vegetarian diet may include lentils, cottage cheese, cooked eggs, and baked beans. Mix those with healthy grains and a variety of produce, and dogs can do well on this diet. Again, make sure to talk to your veterinarian to see if this is the right fit for your dog.
