| | A Magical Celebration for this Senior Pit | The Benton Franklin Humane Society celebrated a major milestone recently when its longest resident, Snoopy, finally went to his forever home. Snoopy is a senior dog with some health issues, and the staff worked hard to find him a good fit. He went viral a few times in videos featuring him, and he was known for his friendly demeanor towards everyone he met. | One particular volunteer at the shelter made it her mission to find Snoopy a home. She worked with other organizations she had connections with and eventually found Andrea to help foster Snoopy. He quickly became a foster fail for her and found his forever home. The day he moved out of the shelter and into her home, the shelter lined up outside to cheer him on and celebrate the occasion. After 600 days without a home, Snoopy has found the perfect match! |

| | | Reasons Your Dog Curls Up At Your Feet | The sweetest sight is that of a dog curled up at your feet at the end of a long day, but have you ever wondered why they would lay at your feet? There are seven possible reasons why this is the spot they pick and why they do it this way: | Instincts of pack animals - Dogs are pack animals, and if they don't have another dog in the house, you and your family members are substitutes. When they are resting, they stay in this subordinate position. Seeking warmth - This might be an easy way to warm up. They might curl up into a tiny ball and look for any way to be in contact with your body heat. They simply love you - Dogs show love in so many ways and this is one of them. This might be the way they can have contact and show you how they love to be close to you. Marking territory - Laying on your feet might be your pup's way of showing other dogs in the house or animals that you're theirs. It's standard territorial behavior. Looking for protection - When dogs are resting, they might want to stay closer to you so you can keep an eye out for dangers. Being at your feet gives them security. Sensing your feelings - Dogs pick up on our feelings in many different ways, like the tone of our voice and how we smell. They might curl up near you to help calm you down. Keeping track of you - Some pups are anxious and feel better knowing where you are as often as possible. Laying at your feet allows them to feel when you move, and they can keep an eye on you.
| This is typically a special bonding time that most dog parents love. The behavior is only problematic if the dog starts getting aggressive when others approach. |
