| | Fashion Pups Get Their Moment in the Spotlight | You've likely heard of the Met Gala, but did you know dogs have their own fashion night? The Pet Gala is an event for the dogs. It was held just a few weeks after the Met Gala, and dogs walked a red carpet at New York's American Kennel Club Museum of the Dog. The event is the organization's way of celebrating the beautiful designs presented at the Met Gala. This year, some dogs even had outfits inspired by real Met Gala looks.
The theme for this year's event was the Garden of Time. Most of the participants were small, pint-sized dogs. The photographer loves working with these subjects, but getting them to sit still in their fancy options can be challenging. There were also a few accidents on the red carpet, which you'll not see at the Met Gala. Make sure to check out all the photos of these fabulous pups. |

| | | July is Lost Pet Prevention Month | This month is now dedicated to raising awareness about pet loss prevention and how to keep them safe at home. PetHub launched this official month in 2014, and they chose July because there is a huge increase in lost pets due to Fourth of July celebrations and summer vacations.
Pets can escape if the property is not secure, if there is a lack of supervision, or if they are in an unfamiliar environment. Loud noises can also scare dogs and cause them to take off. Fireworks are a big element in July, being such a tough month for dogs. As dog owners, there are six things you can do to reduce the likelihood that your dog will be able to get out and not find their way home. | Microchip your dog. This is the easiest way for shelters and animal control to identify your dog and get them back to you. Add an ID tag to your dog's collar. This is another fantastic way to ensure that people know how to reach you if they find your dog. Having a collar on helps people know that the dog has a home and is likely to contact you. Dog-proof the house. Check the doors and their locks and latches. Add pet-proof screens to the windows. Verify that the yard is securely fenced with no holes or weak spots. Leash train your dog. Work on your dog's leash skills and use the leash whenever your dog is outside. This will help keep your dog safe and prevent them from chasing animals or running from a sound. Practice pet travel safety. Secure your pup in a high-quality crate whenever you're on a road trip. Use a harness that makes it harder to slip out of than a collar when you're in unfamiliar environments. Engage with your community. Get to know your neighbors when you're out walking the dog. If they see your dog get out, they'll likely contact you if they are already familiar with you and your dog. You can also help keep an eye out for your neighbors and their pups.
| By taking the proper prevention steps and sharing with others, we can all help reduce the number of pets who find themselves lost this month. |
